Wednesday Share: The Second Law of Thermodynamics

Okay, I admit it, I am a science nerd sometimes. I can't say I necessarily understand a lot of it, mind you, but I still find it very interesting. As such, I want to share it with you.

Which brings us to today's share, an article by Dr. Jason Lisle about the second law of thermodynamics.

Now, you may or may not be familiar with that term, but I would guess you've heard some form of it. Basically, if my understanding is right, you've probably heard the concept that our universe is slowly but surely running out of energy. Another word you've possibly heard is entropy.

Well, in this article, Dr. Lisle explains what these things actually are and how they fit within a Biblical framework.

I myself am guilty of believing some of the misconceptions he points out here, primarily the idea that the concept of entropy began with the curse. His argument against that makes a lot of sense.

So, has sin caused a decay in our universe? No doubt. But can we say that is the second law of thermodynamics? Apparently not.

He also touches on how we can use this law as an apologetic, a defense of the Christian faith.

All in all, while a little heady, it's a good explanation of a very fundamental aspect of our universe, and another testament to God's power and creativity.
