Two Important Truths

A hand holding a card with a quote from Joshua 1:9

Sometimes it's easy to become discouraged. When I think of this endeavor and my own inability, I cannot help but think that this is such an unlikely uphill climb. Being strong and courageous can be challenging.

And it can also be easy to find my identity in this, or whatever work any of us may find to do.

In fact, finding our identity and purpose in things of this world is very commonplace.

But what a reminder it is to hear that as believers, we are God's own children. We are in Christ. That's our identity (1:1-7).

I want this venture to succeed, yes, to provide for myself and those under my care, but primarily for God's glory and the good of His people. Failure is a very real fear, a fear that this will be too much. Perhaps God will decide not to bless this in that way.

But another reminder is that God has prepared good works for me to accomplish, and He prepared them beforehand; the implication being, God's going to accomplish this work in me, even despite me and my weakness (Ephesians 2:10).

What a comfort these two truths are.

Yes, we can discuss human responsibility at another time. But I'm not stronger than God, and neither are you. He will hold onto His own, and He will accomplish His purpose.

Will this venture collapse? Maybe, maybe not. But will God be stopped, and will He fail to work through me either way? Of course not.
