Monday Share; How does God think of us?

A young man standing in a field looks up at the sky

Can I be honest with you? Sometimes (a lot of times?) I don't think very highly of myself. My inabilities, my issues, my sin, all of it can drown out any and everything else at times. I see what I expect of myself, and that I'm not matching up to that. I focus on those negatives.

On the opposite end of the spectrum is the self-esteem movement that's permeated our Western culture for the last few decades. "You're perfect just the way you are!" is a mantra that seems to have even infiltrated the church. But it's an anti-Biblical idea; we are not perfect, in fact, we're far from it. All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God, as Paul explains in Romans chapter 3.

Somewhere in between these two extremes lies the truth of how we ought to think of ourselves; our thinking on this subject (as with all subjects) must begin with Scripture.

Tim Challies offers us a very helpful look into what God has said in His Word about what He thinks of us. It's a strange mix of uplifting and convicting. Who would imagine that thinking lowly of oneself is actually at times a form of pride? Yet when faced with Scripture, we see that it is.

So I hope for today's post-share, you'll be encouraged and challenged, as I am as well.
