To Wear Orange, or Green?

Interesting questions. Honestly I never thought it was an option on St. Patties Day to wear anything but green. But you live and learn.
What am I driving at? Well, on this day I had wanted to write about St. Patrick, Instead I was sent this article from Ligonier, and frankly, Stephen Nichols will do a much better job writing about the legendary St. Patrick than I ever could.
That said, I do want to say this. I do pray that God would raise up men like Patrick. Kidnapped at sixteen for six years, finally able to escape, only to return to Ireland, not as a prisoner, but as a missionary. He didn't go with a group, or through an organization, not that there's anything wrong with that, in many ways they are essential. But he felt a calling on his life to serve the people of Ireland, and to bring the gospel to them and nothing of this world was going to stop him.
We need more men and women willing to take up the call of God in a serious, and Biblical way. We're all called to be involved in missions, whether through the proclamation of the gospel in our every day lives, or by going abroad in service of the building up of the church among the nations. Not all are called to go and be like Patrick, but if you're not, are you supporting those who do through prayer and support? Food for thought.
So, on this St. Patrick's day, instead of wasting your time worrying about green clothes and drinking, pray for the missionaries who are continuing that great work, the commission that Jesus gave to us: to go.
