Springtime and the New Creation

A purple dogwood bloom, the rest of the purple blooms and green leaves out of focus around it
I took this photo a number of years ago, early in my landscape photography days. I enjoyed photographing this dogwood tree.

Springtime is officially here, I hope. March was a crazy weather month in Virginia, to be sure. Eighty degrees, snow the next day, and a roller coaster of temps ever since. But the trees are blossoming now and it seems that winter is finally done.

I've written about the seasons many times already. They are certainly capable metaphors for life.

I know as a photographer, spring makes me want to get out a bit more.

Also lately, as you've probably noticed, many of my blogs have been about getting back on track, and in a sense, spring feels almost like that, doesn't it?

Everything comes back to life.

And it happens so gradual. One minute it's freezing cold, the next day you start to see green on the trees.

With the state of things in the world, it's not uncommon for people to think about the end times. Are we in them?

Well truth be told, we've been in them since Christ ascended.

Jesus spoke about signs and we get many glimpses of things to expect as time goes on. Regardless of your view of eschatology, it's apparent that change is coming; Christ will be returning one day.

Will it be as subtle as the changes of spring? I'm not sure, again, there's many views of eschatology. One thing is for sure, when Christ returns, it will not be subtle. The newness of the creation will be much grander than the blossoming of trees in spring as well.

Just as the cold and dreary winter passes away, the difficult and tear-filled parts of life will also pass away, and the new creation will come.

So, the next time you look at the flowers blooming or the new buds of a tree, pause and think forward, not necessarily to the signs of the times, the scary thoughts of it all, but to the fact that Jesus will return and right every wrong, and this creation will be reborn.
