In looking for a share for this weeks theme, I came across this article by Tim Challies. I'll admit I found it a tad convicting as well. I can safely, and perhaps sadly say, that a large chunk of my theology has developed because of insights and resources that I found through other sites and sources more so than a lot of what I have learned in church. I am incredibly thankful that God in His providence led me to safe and sound websites and used these resources to develop my theology in a stronger and more sound way. But not everyone will have that same result. There are many dangers out there, and as technology continues to grow and permeate our culture, those dangers will only increase. And in so doing, our discernment must also increase.
But God, again in His providence, and in His wisdom, has established the church for us, with its leaders and teachers and pastors to be a guide for us. Myself included, may we not neglect these helps to find all our answers online.
Tim also offers somewhat of a counter to that though, in that those of us (like this website itself) are challenged to make sure we present sound and useful help to those who do use them. Parachurch organizations are not a bad thing, I believe, but they can be too much of a crutch, as well as offer just plain bad information. I hope that is not the case here!
Regardless, it's an interesting insight, and I hope you'll find some use in it.
