I recently wrote a post about packing, you can check that out here. Simple enough idea: work for the things that are eternal, because everything else you can't take with you.
Now here I am, ready for a second trip, hoping I have everything packed that needs to be.
It's easy to second guess, but eventually you have to just recognize you have it packed, somewhere.
Our team leader for this mission trip sent a fitting message to our group this evening. In it he quoted a very helpful verse:
"Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God " - Philippians 4:6
I know I've mentioned that verse before but it does fit with my current situation.
I mean, I'm not really nervous about the trip itself. But coming off of one trip and right into another, I guess I just don't wanna be cranky from jet lag.
I know that's silly, but let's face it we all can get cranky because we get worked up and we get anxious and before you know it, well... We would do well to start with this verse. And yes I'm guilty of that even in this moment.
But the verse is very simple. Be anxious for what? Nothing.
Everything by prayer and supplication.
With thanksgiving.
Let your requests be known. To who? God.
So any worry we have, any anxiety, all of our concerns, we can bring, in fact were called to bring it, to our heavenly Father, who cares for us.
We do so with thanksgiving. Recognizing that we can consider it all joy when we face things that are hard. Thankful that God is at work in us. Thankful that He hears us and helps us. Thankful for the future hope we have in him when our sorrow is gone.
And finally we tell it to God.
It's a battle, and it's a journey we all face and struggle with.
So I guess writing this is both cathartic and convicting for me.
In closing, I simply ask for prayer that God would be at work this week, and that the gospel go forth, and His name be made known. God bless, and Lord willing I will try to keep you posted this week with some reports in how and what we're doing.
