Looking forward to the Lord's Day

Updated: Oct 15, 2025

The Christian Sabbath is a topic that can be a little, I don't know, confusing maybe, for some people. Some argue that the idea of a Sabbath rest was for the O.T. and we are no longer bound to any such thing in the new covenant. Of the ten commandments, it is the only one that doesn't have a direct restatement in the New Testament (I believe that's the case anyway). Others would say that since God Himself rested on the 7th day, then the idea of the Sabbath precedes the commandment, and therefore it's simply a part of creation and we are bound to follow it. It's a lot deeper than all that on both sides, but that hopefully gives a brief glimpse into what some believers have to say on it.

But we are creatures that need rest. And I can tell you, after the last couple days, my body is telling me that I do. It doesn't matter what I want to do today, my body says "I don't care, sit down."

And so, that was what I did today. I believe we simply need periods of rest. Not laziness mind you, but rest.

But what about Sunday? It is the day that Christians have celebrated as their "Sabbath" for a very long time. Sunday is when Christ rose from the dead, and as such it is fitting. We do not need to work for our salvation, we have rest in Him.

And so with those two ideas in mind, I simply would encourage you to look forward to tomorrow, the Lord's Day, the Christians day of worship where we gather in our local bodies of believers to praise our great God.

I understand not all Christians gather on Sunday, I do. But just understand my sentiment.

Worshiping with other believers is a gift. And may we use the day to firstly honor our Lord. But also to rest, to take in a prayerful walk, to spend time with family, to set our minds on things above and prepare our hearts and minds for the week that follows.

I know for me, I am looking forward to a hopefully nice night sleep. Unfortunately, I may not be able to go to church as I'm a bit sick.

That's another factor that I understand is a reality for many. Not everyone can get to church. So be in prayer for them, love them, help if possible.

Be the body of Christ.
