Captive to Philosophy

A close up of a smart phone

I hate to admit it, but I find myself doom-scrolling at times, especially on the ol' YouTube machine.

Why do I mention this? Because as I was scrolling today, something hit me. There really are a lot of different voices out there, all competing for your attention.

As somewhat of a content creator myself, I'm not even sure how I ought to feel about that.

So many videos and blogs address matters of belief, productivity, finances, skills, and an infinite variety of other topics, all claiming what they believe to be true (at best, deliberately deceptive at worst).

Even among Christians, there are a plethora of opinions. Videos on end times, soteriology, and even Bible translations garner tons of views.

But who is right? And how do we know?

Paul warns us in Colossians chapter 2 not to be taken captive by this world's philosophies. But it can be extremely challenging when they're all around us, and seemingly benign.

But are they?

Of course not. And so we need to consider Paul's warning even (and especially) in this day and age.

It can be so easy to get caught up in the thinking and ways of this world that we lose sight of the cross and God's ways.

Due to the lateness of the hour, I'm not going to delve into this as much as I want (and ought to), but I want to encourage all of us to remember that all the treasures of wisdom are in Christ (Colossians 2:2-4).

So while there are some resources, even secular ones, that are fine for the believer to look into, all of it must be filtered through Christ and His Word.
